Transfer to Airport for Precision Air Flight to Arusha via Dar es Salaam 07h10 > 09h30

On arrival at Arusha Airstrip you will meet your Safari Driver/Guide and drive through MtoWaMbu, up the Rift Valley Escarpment and into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, arriving at the Crater Rim in time for Lunch (190 km.3h30)

Depart after Lunch for a full afternoon game drive down into the Crater - said by some to be the original Garden of Eden Ngorongoro Crater, 12 miles (19 kilometers) wide, is the world's largest intact caldera. The crater floor is primarily grassland, with patches of spring-fed marshes, freshwater ponds, a salt lake, and small forests. Harbouring 20,000 large animals, it is a virtual Noah's Ark (without giraffes). Buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras,gazelles, and hartebeests graze the grassland, while elephants roam the wooded areas, and hippos gather in marshes and ponds. Lions, spotted hyenas,and golden and black-backed jackals are easy to find, but servals and cheetahs are sighted rarely. Resident ostriches, crowned cranes, and kori bustards are joined seasonally by migrant flocks of white and Abdim's storks.

As sunset approaches drive back up the Crater wall for Dinner and Overnight at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge

After breakfast we drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation area to the Naabi Gate into Serengeti National Park, stopping enroute for a Picnic Lunch at Olduvai Gorge where there will be time to visit the small museum dedicated to the achievements of Louis and Mary Leakey who revolutionized our understanding of human anatomical and cultural evolution with the discovery of early hominid skulls like that of Zinjanthropus boisei and of crude chopping tools vastly older than anyone had previously believed possible. A full day Game driving through the central and northern Serengeti in search of the gathering Migration

The Masai word, "siringet," meaning endless plains, truly describes the vast, fascinating landscape of the Serengeti National Park. Rivers flowing out of the Ngorongoro Crater into the grasslands on their way to Lake Victoria, sustain such an incredible populations of wildlife that can only be believed when seen ! We spend the whole of this day exploring the broad savannah plains, with their dramatic outcrops of granite rock which are favourite haunts of lions, in particular. The Acacia woodlands in the centre, surrounded by denser forests to the north and west,are home to millions of animals who graze here: wildebeest, Burchell's zebra,Thomson's gazelle, antelope, eland, lion, cheetah, and spotted hyena.More than a million wildebeest, accompanied by hundreds of thousands of other herbivores, descend upon the short-grass plains of the south-eastern Serengeti at the start of the rainy season around December. After calving in January and February, they scatter over the southern and central plains. By May the rain ends, the grass has been reduced to stubble, and the animals begin their long march to dry-season grazing grounds near the permanent waters of the Serengeti's northern woodlands and Kenya's Masai Mara. Reaching these destinations by July or so, they remain until October, when they head back to the south-eastern Serengeti.

Another full day Game driving out of the Serengeti and through the Maasai heartland of the Loliondo Game Controlled area to Lake Natron - Dinner and Overnight at Lake Natron Camp, small but comfortable with 9 self-contained spacious tents with showers and flush toilets. Thatched dining room and bar. Swimming pool. Lighting: 12 Volt solar power in all tents and dining room.

Lake Natron is a shallow alkaline lake. The lake is a most forbidding environment for most animals, including humans. To fly over it gives some idea of its beauty with its amazing patterns of soda floes and their vivid hues of red and brown. The flamingos nest sometime between August and November in the most inaccessible places. Normally there are fairly large numbers around the lake shore. Occasional herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle can also be seen, and sometimes oryx.A very pleasant hike is up the Engare Sero gorge that cuts into the rift valley escarpment; there are some lovely waterfalls in a grotto and the stream is wonderful for bathing. The lake shore has a wonderful variety of bird life.

For the really adventurous there is an option to Climb Oldonyo L'Engai- the Maasai "Mountain of God" and the only active volcano in the region ! The ascent starts around midnight, takes 5 to 7 hours and is a long steep climb. At the summit there are amazing views of the small crater The view from the top of L'Engai over the Rift Valley is spectacular, particularly with views of the sun rising and Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru visible (two of the five highest peaks in Africa). A guide must accompany climbers.

Morning free for exploration at Lake Natron before driving back to Arusha ( 250km 4h30) with stops en route for Souvenir shopping. Dinner and Overnight Arusha Hotel

Transfer to Arusha Airstrip for the return Flight to Johannesburg via Dar es Salaam 10h30 >16h10
